There
are many reasons a link can break, taking visitors to the 404 Error page (Page
Not Found). Here are some of the most common edits which break hyperlinks:
·
Changing the name of a web page
·
Moving a web page to a new section
·
Deleting a web page
·
Changing the name of a file for download
When
any of the above occurs, you will want to check all pages on your website, as
applicable, to make sure links are still working correctly.
If
you subscribed to a web stats tracking service, broken links (404 errors) should
appear in the reports giving you insight as to the pages visitors have
encountered broken links on.
